I am going to do a track day at the weekend, my first in the 911, so I don't know if I'll need to upgrade, but.... What upgrade options are there for a solid disk '69 Targa, Can I use Vented disks ? will I need to upgrade the calipers too ?

Cheers

Right, pay attention class here we go:

You are currently running “narrow” M calipers on the front and rear. These will NOT be compatible with vented discs, you have a couple of options:

1) If you want vented discs you can fit “wide” M calipers front and rear (found on an assortment of T’s, E’s and S’s up to SC’s), these will fit the existing front and rear 3” fixings and be a bolt on upgrade. They don’t give you any bigger braking surface but to let you run vented discs. These calipers can be bought new or second hand and aren’t too pricey.
2) You can upgrade to A or S calipers in the front. However these have 3.5” spacing, so not only do you need new vented discs and new calipers, but you also require new front struts. A and S fronts can be used with either M caliper at the rear. A and S calipers have a large brake pad and a larger braking area
3) Upgrade to carrera brakes or newer. You require 4 new discs, 4 new calipers, new front struts and a new master cylinder; you may also need a balance adjuster.
