Hi all,

Just a quick question I thought ysomeone may know. If I want to fit a late 915 box in an early car (pre 73 with 4 bolt flange style) can I simple take the flange out of the early box (ie 4 bolt flange from a 911 or early 915 box) and put it in the late 915 box and use the original drive shafts ??

Any advice ?

Alan,

My '72 has the 4 bolt flange driveshafts, when they died I was a little concerned about getting CV's with 4 holes and 2 pegs. My local propshaft expert pointed out that the 4 bolt CV is just a 6 bolt CV with two pins pressed into 2 of the holes....

So I guess you can use your original driveshafts and just knock the pins out to make them 6 bolt spec.

I assume the PCD of the bolts is the same between early and late 915 boxes?

Good luck

Thanks,

I am still not 100% certain but I know that the late 915 flange is smaller (PCD) and also pre 72 shafts can not be put in a 72 and later as they are too long, the CV joint is thicker.

Looks like I may change the flange on the box but I know at some point the splines in the boxes changed so that will effect things.

Oh well the search for info goes on ..... beats revising for my PhD viva on Friday anyway.
