just completely re-built the brakes and had drums skimmed but keep getting a spring noise as shoes catch on drums then release. All bits put back as per factory manuals.

I have adjusted up the shoes so its tight to turn.

Any ideas.

well i found the problem and its sorted. thanks all.

It was the pins that hold the shoes down had been replaced with any old rubbish.

I would back the adjustment off a little from "tight to turn" to "just free" so your shoes are not dragging on your drums.

thanks but it aint that trust me. I took off the drums to double check it was all right again and found the shoes new shoes from USA had scored into the drum and the pins are slightly to long and hitting the under side of the wheel studs making the springing bong sound i was getting.

I will have to grind shoes back and fit proper pins and may be take off some of the powder coating on the back plates where the shoes touch.

Might sound funny, but are the shoes upside down? they should have a trailing edge as they don't move out in unison.

Shoes are as per workshop manual and double checked by myself and the owner of the car. It does look like its the pins hitting the drums and the shoes are pushed out and scoring the drum so need to made to fit. I think it was the thickness of the powder coating changing the depth of fit for all the bits.
