I like the look of these and wondered where to get them and also wondered about the cost. bit scary cutting a big hole into a perfectly good bonnet .cheers jay

This was talked about some time back and also these people did this to their projects at the time..

I have some old Polaroids sent to me from USA of s90 GT and it dont have this filler cap. Also if u do a search on line and find pics you will see a red s90 GT that does not have this filler cap, a silver one that does not have this filler cap and European Collectibles had a Carerra GT t5 and that did not have that cap. Also im sure that this type of filler cap was not used on race cars as it was not safe. May be it was on an early A t-2 Carerra GT. Did mikes GT have it on? Anyone know more?

okay maybe I should have said racing style filler cap. I just think they look cool even on a later car

I think most people at the time were simply cutting the 'knuckle duster' type handle out of plate steel and either brazing it or welding it to an existing standard cap.
I think they then welded an extension pipe onto the petrol tank to raise the filling screw thread up to a level just below the bonnet level, and the trickiest part was to cut the hole in the exact centre.
I dont remember anyone talking about finding a way to seal it all off from the elements, however ;-(
I think your issue might be that with your C the filler area is not in the centre tank profile of the bonnet, like it is on the earlier tanks found on the pre a, a and B (?).
So you could try sourcing an earlier tank, welding up the filler lid you have in the wing, and bobs your uncle.
You could try to re-route the filler neck of the main tank into the centre instead of the side?

I've been really busy lately dan but give us bell next week and I'll see what we can do. I'm sure i've seen these filler cap arrangements with a rubber seal that seals up against the under side of the bonnet. you must be able to buy them somewhere. my car is a t6 b like the car in the picture above.

Check out this guys 911r project over on pelican bbs, its been a pretty thorough build and has some great details documented including the center fill fuel cap. He used a stainless dog bowl as the fuel draining/overspill/weather seal, Looks pretty good! I am in the process of doing something similar and having to fabricate a latch disc, will try and post some pics soon.

Hey Jury nice to see you over this side of the pond how about posting some pic's of your 912s in the 912 section members cars..

I still have a handful of laser cut handles from my emachineshop order that fit a standard filler if that helps....



I did a through bonnet filler on my Chesil 356 replica, using a standard flange and rubber catch cup, with a custom adaptor to accept a standard filler cap.



As my bonnet is GRP I also made an alumnium ring to support the double skin at the hole.
