If I was going to buy a non-356, this would be it. Wish I had the spare cash!

I saw this car when it was (ahem) somewhere else and wanted to swap my 3.2 for it plus cash. Happy with my 2.0 SWB (and keeping the 3.2 as well) but the 'S' looks really nice and original. Alan's got a lovely car there and the engine is sweet - Bob Watson having waved his magic over it. Think it was a sporto(?) at some point. Not that it matters.

Hi,

Thanks for your kind comments.
The car is easily useable as is, and is a blast to drive. These early 2.0S's really love to Rev, but by work I mean more detailing/presentation side of a restoration. The paint on the bonnet and boot needs re-doing so I will be stripping the entire car and fully repainting it, and whilst there..... I will probably

Strip all the suspension replace all bushes and bearings plus powder coat all parts.
Remove the motor and fully detail it, plus fit SSI and stainless exhaust
Refurbish all 5 5.5x15 fuchs
Re-chrome the door handles and strip and re-anodise all window trim (fit new front and rear screen trim) all new rubbers where required
New salt and pepper carpet, and trunk carpet
Fully retrim the front and rear seats, plus rear 1/4 and rear parcel shelf, maybe in leather (not sure yet)
New seat belts, new front and rear lenses, new bumper trim and so on...

Looking through the history file there is all the info on the engine build and lists of all the parts that were replaced. Also the MOT's suggest that the milage of 56k is original and from I have seen this is reflected in the condition of the car.

Thanks again

Alan

PS. Julian is correct the car was originally a sportomatic but is now converted to manual 5 speed.

  Not that... but I was getting quite concerned at how cheap `68 esses are getting, whoever buys this car will be doing themseves a great favour and getting a rare car

This extract is from Robin over on PCGB, I`m sure he wouldn`t mind if I reproduce it here.

Hi Mike, the records are very interesting but a bit slow to look through as they are in hard copy. For the 1968 model year from end August 1967 to December 31 there were 22 x 911 RHD S Coupes imported and 2 LHD S Targa models making a total of 24 x 911 S cars. From January 1st 1968 to July 31st 1968 there were another 13 x 911 S models imported as 11 coupes and 2 targas. The total number of 911 S models imported into UK for model year 1968 is 37 cars of which 33 were RHD coupes (including 5 Sportomatics) 4 were LHD UK spec cars (including 2 Targas). The most popular colour was Bahama Yellow 8 cars, then Tangerine and Polo Red with 6 each, then Light Ivory with 5 and Burgundy Red with 4, then Sand Beige and Silver with 2 each, then with 1 car each is Dolphin Grey, Ossi Blue, Indigo Blue, and Black. What I do not know is how many of those cars imported in MY1968 still exist today. When the records that I am using were collated, only 7 of the 37 imported were on the clubs Early 911 Register, these were 6 coupes and 1 targa, Ian Mcleod may be able to help further with todays records but finding out what still exists and where they are will be an almost impossible job for someone to do? In the meantime have a Happy and Prosperous New Year.

Regional Director.

It turns out that mine was the Dolphin grey car :)

Good luck with the sale Alan

Regards, Mike.

Thanks Mike,

Thats some great info you have posted. This car was one of the "Tangerine" 68S that Robin mentions, I called it "blood orange" which is actually the same colour

Hi,

This car is due to go into our body shop in 3 weeks and will be fully repainted, so if anyone wanted to change the colour they can choose their own colour.

Thanks

Hi,

For those whom have expressed an interest, we are now starting work on the car. It is currently in the paint shop and then our trimmer will re-trimming the front and rear seats in full leather, (fronts with basket weave insert as per original). A full new Salt 'n Pepper carpet set will be fitted along with a new headliner.

Thanks

Alan

Alan

You were kind enough to post pictures of the interior roof without headliner so that I could locate the fixing holes for the sunvisors on my car (now fitted) which was a great help. I am now trying to locate the the fixing hole for the coat hooks on the same car (67S) through the new headlining. I thought this would be the easy bit as I expected to feel one hole immediately above and in line with the window pillar I swear I can feel two holes about one centimetre apart. Before I cut through the new headliner is it possible to photograph your car without it's headliner in the coat hook position?

Thanks once again

Regards
Mike
