914/6 GT (Proper) rebuild in progress

Post by rmennell »

FYI - PRS are finally putting works car 55 back together, the promised 10 year project is being done. It is looking very very nice.

If you are in the area pop in and have a look, I feel guilty every time I go there as they always give me so much of their time and are a pleasure to deal with.

Hopefully they post some pics soon on the blog they host.

Not sure how the VIN numbers were organised on the Works cars - will be there later this week to collect my car and will take a couple of pics and sneak a look at the VIN.

Have a peek here http://www.pbase.com/9146gt/.
It looks like there were <60 complete works cars.
PRS also have a posting on the VIN and engine number in order to try and find out more on the car.

please don't get my words wrong - I don't want to offend anybody or cause bad feelings
my interest in details is just academic - I'm a 914-historian

I've got some more questions and comments on this car:

- what makes you think that this is project 914/55 ?? is there any proove?
as I wrote above, I'm a 914 historian and I know that project 914/55 isn't on any GT-list
is there any reason to think that this is a true wide body car (GT, M471)??

- VIN is a model year 1971 (late 1970 built), engine number is model year 1970 (if this number is correct, it's the 1st 914-6 engine built => 1969) ...

- body number isn't valid ... might be 1310011, but not very likely ??

- there's no report that this car has any race history

Give Mike or Paul a call at PRS, they are both very helpful and I am sure they will send you some pics. They own the car and have for years, it is just great to see it being put back together.

I will reply but I need to write a small story - so need more time

I see also that I said Reutter Body No. instead of Karmman plus I now need to check the Body No. looks as if I may have remembered it in-correctly
