Just for interest, if anyone is looking for an RS in a few months, I see Freisinger has started restoration of 911 360 0789 - first shots have arrived on their website.... It's going to be black - nice!

If this is the one Manfred spoke to me about last summer then it comes with air-con as per original fitting...

Hi Paul,
Manfred did e-mail me about this; and at the time (a week ago) I wasn't sure. I Like black, but it's not quite Orange or yellow enough (in an RS) for me. That said, Mike's understated Black Rs looks superb! I'll watch the resto' with interest.

Not sure if this is the 'air-con' car, but in the spec 'extra heating' is mentioned? The e-mail with spec that I was sent is below.

Would that be the underbonnet petrol heater so you have a chance of demisting?

I really don't know Gary, I suppose I should e-mail Manfred and ask, I just hoped one of the many more knowledgable types on here would throw in a one-liner in explanation.
BTW, OT, but.....One question I meant to ask you before, is; you and others often mention breaking down on the jaunt threads. Is that a fact of life of classic Porsche ownership?

I would think that the auxiliary heater would be perhaps something like the Webasto unit often fitted today, running off the car's fuel supply although, I think these heat the cooling water of the engine so not sure how this would work; perhaps just a burner and the heater fan? Sounds a bit dodgy to me!

the old petrol heaters are just as they sound .. a little petrol powered heater that blasts hot air into the cabin. Used to be popular, quite a few fitted to VW beetles & campers. I had one for a split bus & one for a '61 beetle from Norway. Never dared use them
Both had a 'T' piec fitting from the fuel tank.
My Norwegian '61 also came with a special electrical heater element lacated in the oil sump ... you would plug it into the mains supply of your house in the morning and it would heat up the oil ready for you to start the engine
Obvioiusly this car came from the VERY cold area of Norway

Air conditioning code 559 is not listed as an option for chassis #0789
