Afternoon all
I am in the middle of changing my boge shock inserts for koni adjustables

I have got to the point where the shock is accessible but cant release it from its housing - thought it just pulled out.



Also the shocks (which i bought some time ago) seem completely different - are these the right type





Sat here typing with oily hands - so off to get cleaned up and have a brew

I can see the problem here - the hammer you are using is not large enough your want a good old 4 pounder for any job.
As my old man used to say - "when in doubt use a hammer - the bigger the doubt the bigger the hammer."

i've given it a whack with my big rubbery one - the one on the foor was for a tab washer

Sorry Darren it's the one thing I have not done my self on the cars yet. Front shocks it's on the to do list... wish I could help you.. mind you do a check on those part numbers for the new ones...

Your boges do look different to mine though.

The boge insert should pull out, maybe with a bit of force used. Its only the Bilstein shock that uses a pin in the bottom.

I did have a look at your thread - in fact it was your thread that gave me the inspiration to do this

I am going to have another look at them in the morning and see if i can pull it out. Just dont want to damage anything if there is something else i need to do first.

One other thing i have noticed is that the shocks on there at the moment always pump themselves back up to full height after being depressed and the konis dont.

Are the boge's gas filled and the konis hydraulic?

Just been checking part numbers and it seems that 86-1394 is correct for 1965-68 models with boge struts.

Just need to get the boge bugger out.

Quick update

Ok i got it out. The vacuum of the oil in the strut was keeping it in.

Best way i found was to replace the top of the strut back up through the inner wing (without the rubber bushing on top of the insert)

Place the rubber bushing,washer and nut back onto the top of the insert from inside the bonnet and gently pull the a-arm downwards.

Came out in a 5 secs. Bilstein insert inside. Suck the oil out with an oil syringe.

Nice one... Can you post up some pic's to top up James's thread. I will have to do this job my self and call Nick for some new bushes. Might as well do all the front while's it's out
