912 engine update

Post by MartinP »

Picture of burnt out exhaust valve below, along with what looks like an indentation where something has hit the crown of number three piston. There is also part of another piston missing, but that looks to have happened some time ago.

So, new Shaster Design 1720 pistons are going in, along with a fast-road NeuTek cam.

According to Andy Prill, the engine looks to have been rebuilt within the last five years or so as it has an excellent original factory replacement casing. The other good news is that all of the parts that were inside are pukka Porsche parts, so that any previous work has been done properly.

The heads are free from cracks and the crank just needs a polish rather than anything more drastic. So, just need to get a replacement exhaust valve, fit new valve guides (old ones are too worn), and crack on with the rebuild. Can't wait much longer to drive it again!
