The ‘72 model year was to me the ultimate year as it has the 2.4l engine and all the chrome which then disappeared in ‘73, it is also unique with the external oil filler flap. It is also road tax exempted.
This car was delivered to Berlin on 1/4/72 to the following spec: - Gemini Metallic Blue (8686), black leatherette with corduroy inserts seats (Interior 12), 15mm front and rear anti roll bars (404), rear wiper (now not fitted), chrome sill trims (426), tinted windows (568) and power windows (651).
It came to the UK in the early 80’s.and was taken off the road around 1990 and kept in a garage until last year. It has since had a substantial amount of work carried out to re-commission it.
The engine and gearbox have been stripped, inspected and rebuilt with new parts where required, new engine/gearbox mounts, new gear linkage bushes, rebuilt brakes with new or reconditioned parts, front and rear suspension stripped with bushes and ball joints replaced, new dampers all round, new front wheel bearings, new Bosch batteries, new boot, bonnet and door rubbers, new carpet and headliner.
During the reconditioning work any damaged or loose underseal was stripped off and then re-undersealed and sprayed body colour. There is a photographic record of this process.
I have tried to make this car as close to how it came out of the factory as possible, it has matching numbers (engine and gearbox) and is believed to have only covered about 70k miles. Having spent the last year getting the car right I am now being made redundant and need to sell it! If you are looking for an original and unmolested car to enjoy please give me a ring, if you want something to turn into a replica or just to do some tyre kicking please talk to someone else!
