Hi guys

we have just moved from the US to Surrey, Cobham in particular.

I have been lurking this site for a while but I do not own any pre-74 Porsche at the moment.

I am working on a '77 backdate to '72 (with the oil flap and everything) RSR replica. Will that count?

I also have a '74 IROC/RS interpretation that is being shipped to the UK from North Carolina.

A friend said you guys sometimes meet at the Fairmile pub, which is just around the corner from where we live... maybe I'll swing by next time for a cheeky one....

Ciao

Matteo

So the 74 RSR is a project that took almost 2yrs to come to fruition.

Basically back at the end of 2005 I wrecked my Carrera and I decided to upgrade a couple of things...

It got a little out of hands but now I think I am done...

It has a 3.9 liter 993 based engine with Motec M600 ECU, Jenvey ITBs, aggressive cams, Carrillo rods and all the other bits and pieces.
It puts out around 385hp and decent torque.

It is driven by a 993 RS 6-speed G50/31 transmission.

The car sits on Fox adj shocks and received a coilover conversion.

Brakes are the usual 930 with a dual tilton MC set up.

The wheels are 9.5x17 and 11x17 Lindsey Fuchs but I am waiting for some 917 replica wheels to be finished. I have all the pieces for the centerlock conversion here, and as soon as the wheels are done I will do the swap.

Not much else to say unfortunately, because I have not driven the car yet. We had to move from toe US before the project was finished so I am awating inpatiently for the car to show up...

It will be my Xmas present.

The Ford GT is a car I had been dreaming abt since the first prototype in 2001.

Then when we finally decided to move back to the UK (I am Italian and my wife is British and we lived in London before the US) I thought I had to get one otherwise it would have been really difficult in Europe.

Well I thought I would keep the car for 6 months and then sell it either before the move or here in the UK.

Now I changed my mind completely. It is such a great car. Moving from a 911 (my daily driver was a 993) at first it felt huge and heavy (it weighs 1,500kg) and the typical American product with lots of HP but just quite crude in the handling department.

Well I could not be more wrong. I took it to the race track (at Brands Hatch a couple of time) and I just fell in love with it. It is very balanced and neutral. It rewards smoothness and it is a lot of fun given the 550lbs/ft of torque under your right foot.

I hope I will never have to sell it.

The 72 RSR is really a 77 chassis. It was an impulse buy.

Basically the shop that built my 74 had this chassis as you see it in the pics (with the oil filler and RSR flares mounted) for sale for a ridicolously cheap amount of $$$) and I decided to buy it.

I am going to keep it pretty straightforward.

I puchased a 97 993 Varioram 3.6 engine and an 88 G50 transmission. We'll do a coilover conversion and add 930 brakes.
Keep the A/C, RSR interior and 15" Fuch wheels....

I am trying to see if my wife wants to swap the 993 for this when it's done.

Thanks! I am missing a real pre 74 Porsche. I know.

The problem is that prices have skyrocketed and my wife has prohibited me from buying anymore cars. So to add one I need to sell one....

The thing is we have 2 little ones (3 and 4 yrs old) and as much as we both (my wife and myself) try not to drive it too much I can't see swapping it for a 356...

And my daughters have just entered that phase where they want to have playdates after school so we need a 5 seater car.
