DDK - Die Deutschen Klassiker

It is a 1966 912 (pics below). The car was registered in the UK on 1/8/78 and received a registration number of KVH 190T (they did that in those days!).

Obviously the car is now in a very sorry state, having the roof 'chopped' at some point, and then severely vandalised whilst in storage. Every panel has been dented, and all the glass broken except side and rear window.

The way that the car has been strengthened (chassis, floor and roll cage) suggests that the car was modified for racing at some point???.

I don't know a huge amount about 912's so I thought I would see if anyone on here could shed some light on it?

Going to be a money pit I would suggest even if you got it for nowt.

I would suggest that the floor has been strengthened so that it didn't collapse when they cut the roof off !
From the view of the foot well, this wasn't a Targa !! so the extra gusset pieces in this area are not present. What a mess !

I did buy it but sadly just to break and see what I could use for my 356b.

Believe it or not, at first glance the mechanics look in good nick. Five speed gearbox has been cleaned up and looks recon, brand new starter, engine turns over freely by hand (not put any power to it yet - will have a stab next week), relatively new shocks all round, newish discs, etc. Five Fuch wheels are fine but of course need recon.

All the interior is there, although needs clean up, plus a spare set of front seats, a couple of wings and the rear lid (fibreglass with RS spoiler?).

I know what you mean about the 'strengthening' for roof removal, but it does seem overkill, and the dents (there were obviously plenty before the car was vandalised as I removed filler to uncover evidence of previous prangs) suggest it had seen some sort of 'action' in the past.

Believe it or not the car is actually structually very sound, and although horrible, would not need a lot of work to make 'roadworthy' (tounge firmly in cheek).

Please excuse my ignorance, but there is a little lever on the floor just in front of the gearstick - anyone know what it is for? Sorry, I do not have a pic and the car is stored elsewhere, but I will have a crawl under next week and see what it is attached to.

Yep, its the early position of the heater control lever.

That's what I thought initially, but then there seems to be a portion of rear roll bar, I was thinking it might indeed have been raced as one of those 'speedster' type open cars with rear hoop. Who knows, best as a parts car, sad.

Didn't the seller wanted to make a convertible out of this, hence the strenghtening to "replicate" the structural rigidity of the porsche factory convertibles?

what car..

Well we removed the engine and box today relatively easily.By looks of it gearbox is a relatively recent addition although CVs seem to be with car.
Going to test engine out in the barndoor some time this week when ive finished welding on a splitty.

Theres loads to be scavanged on this car and its actually fairly intact underneath Im sure theres loads on it for other peoples restos.

So please just fire away with what you are after

to be honest there is a few small parts I could do with I will make a list.

Steering rack covers. These are what stop the rack rods popping out it's holder I will get a part pic I jsut seem to have lost mine when i took it all apart

them dam fairys moving stuff about my workshop again!!
