Just been relisted after not making reserve. Has the look of a car that just wants to go away and quietly finish rusting, undisturbed..

this guy is my way he sells wrecks from the states for ....interesting money shall we say... I remember a 912 he was selling for like £5K + that was worth about £2000 I don't think it even had a 912 engine..
It's almost that he finds the biggestwreck he can find and then punt it for good money and waits for an Ebay fish to leap at the chance of buying the best bit of rust they can find!!

The 356 just needs to be broken up. Nobody can be brave enough to restore that can they?

well most of the cars he sells are back on ebay again after the first sale, so that tells you.. I think he should back in doing this importing he's not doing it very well.. but then I could be wrong if able to talk a good sale.

no it's been a while since that was up I do hope no one bought it ekk!!
will need alot of work before you could even buy any goodie bits..it would be panel panel and more panels for years before it would see any paint

Im doing a cabriolet thats much worse than that!But that coupe is never worth doing,its a breaker really,unless you want to spend £50K+!

why is that a 50k er
sure its shot, but metal work shouldnt cost 50k
its a complete car and personally think ripping it apart would be a terrible shame, a grands worth of panels and a determined attitude would see that back on the road road another 40years
i would say if you got that for 3-4 k, you would be happy and got a good deal ?

I think Graham is talking about a professional restoration, but even if you did everything yourself - and that's serious time and skills required - I doubt it would cost less than 10K.

with the greatest of respect that a VW way. and then it will just get worse.
The 50K is for labour and panels and many of them are made from scratch. I know 100% where Graham is coming from and he's not far off.
Ok lets look at you doing it your self
£6000 purchase price
Panels £2500
Seals rubber £1000
Brakes £1500
Interior £1500
Paint £3000
Engine rebuild £4000
Gearbox £1500
Misc £2000
£17,000
now the car will only be restored to a basic of levels and will be MOT able and present able Value £12,000 £14,000
Labour yours £10 an hour x 400 hrs £4000 ( 2 years )
£4000+£17,000 = £21,000
you make a nice £6,000 loss..
that 356 is worth £1500-2000 TOPS

Only problem with that is it doesn't take into account
a)possible future values (seems to be currently a consistent rise) and
b)availability of 356s as there may be less resto cars in future
c)someone might want to save a car, take great pleasure in doing the work themselves and not do it purely on economical grounds - if economics were the only case for restoring a car I suspect there would be far fewer pre 74 cars in general on the road - certainly there wouldnt be the 2 in my garage anyway - just dont tell the wife
