Have done it again

Post by Hendrik Moulds »

Well not me exactly, but a good friend of mine has bought a 912 I found not far from me. I would have bought it myself, but I think I've enough cars for now!

Body looks OK in the photos, but unfortunately the car does have some issues although underneath is really solid.

Car came with a spare engine and gearbox as well as loads of parts and a couple of Harry Pellow's books.

The guy selling it had owned it for over twenty years as well as owning a 356 cab in the 60's and had loads of old toys of various cars.

Post by Jez 356 »

Is that number plate correct ?

Would the old Y reg be about 1980 ? I did not know they did 912's that late ?!?!?!?!

It will reflect the years the car was first registered in the UK - rather than first registered.

You can get it changed to better match the year of manufactur:

Ah !

I see...

However I thought that you could not get a plate that made the car seem younger than it is and only age related plates would be given out ??

All the best

That's right, but when cars are imported, they seem often to be awarded a plate that's correct for that day, not their age - so you can re-apply for a plate with a more appropriate year and supply evidence to that effect.

You aren't making the car look younger than it is - though in fact, I think my car should have a K-plate, not an L  With pre-72, what they did in my case is apparently to make it as young as they could to get it tax-exempt, without having to pin-down the exact age.

There is a limit too, to how far back they can go, because of the limited number of plates available, change of issue methods etc, so that a friend with a 1956 car was awarded an 'L', too.
