I made the mistake of buying a copy of the Restorers Guide to Authenticity for 911 and 912 yesterday. I then spent the whole evening discovering things which look like they are 1968 parts on my 1967 car! Is it common for a '67 car to have been built with some crossover parts as on other marques (my '67 MGB was the same), or does this mean that my car has been the victim of serial parts replacement over years and is therefore not quite as original as I thought?!

To be honest, I'm not bothered really - the car is brilliant as is and I'm not about to get obsessed with replacing bits, but I was just wondering if this was a common thing on changeover years with cars coming out of the factory with a mixture of parts.

Is it a '67 model year car (typically September '66 to August '67) or a '68 model year car (typically September '67 to August '68 )

Depending on when it was built in '67 this may explain the differences? Or I may be talking rubbish!

Aaah - not sure - I'll look at the dealer certificate this evening which will shed some light on things. Thanks!

What is the VIN?

Panic over! If I'd have bothered to look at the Porsche info sheet that came with the car I would have noticed that it is listed as a 1968 model T Coupé, delivered to the dealer in October 1967. This would explain the 1968 model parts!

The identification number is 12820129.

Now all I need to do is start trying to trace the history of the car before it was imported into the UK in 1990...

VIN identifies it as a '68 912.

Porsche 'info sheet' describes it as a '68 model T ?!!!

Yep - the Porsche info sheet (listing all numbers, optional extras fitted and dealer to whom the car was issued - VW Pacific in Culver City, California) says 912 model 'T' Coupé!
