DDK - Die Deutschen Klassiker

Hi folks,
My first Porsche so wondering what would be the best books to buy that'd give some fairly decent step-by-step guides to basic and not so basic questions.

First job i had to do was replace the shift coupler bushings and I found it really difficult to get information on what to do exactly - specifically, how to remove the dowel pin - or the fact that the dowel pin was even removable

Anyway, I have a Bentleys manual for my VW and it is totally excellent - eveything is covered from changing oil to removing the engine, trim, clocks, etc., etc. My only complaint is that is does not have a good index.

Anyway, I would love a simlar book for my 912E (76). Any ideas?

there is a climer book out there that has a 912E section to it I have a copy, I am sure it can be found again mainly on Ebay in the US.

if I remember I will take a pic of the front cover for you and give you any ISBN numbers to help you on the way.. should be about $20-$30 bucks

Haynes 914 for almost all engine issues and a Haynes 911 book for anything else, body, brakes, suspension, gearbox, etc. You could go Bentley for either but personally I wouldn't bother.

You can pickup either Haynes new or second hand for a few pounds, Bentley is usually alot more.

yes the haynes is good as well I have one of these as well.

this book I am on about covers the lot in one book.. but pays your money.

the book is from 1976 so hence it covers the E and then the whole car as the 912E based on a 911 S of 1976

Maybe a good indicator my where I'm at is that I actually bought the Haynes 911 Restoration Manual and found it to be an utter disappointment. Tells me how to drop an engine in 10 easy steps but not how to do an oil change, or a belt change, or a shift coupler dowel pin removal

I'll check out those other, though, so thanks a mil.

For what its worth mate, I don't think the Haynes 911 manual is up to much. I bought one off Evil-bay a few weeks ago, and find it way too vague and sketchy. It also assumes that you know what all the bits are called! Very frustrating!

Hey boz. I did manage to buy one book that is a lot better - its called Porsche 912 Handbook by Mel Kay. Million times better that the Haynes one I bought.

jh - presumably the book has a section on 912Es? Where did you get it?
