Will 185/70 x 15" tyres fit inside the wheel arches of a 1966 912?

I have 185/70 x 15's on my '12.
But there are some thin (5mm?) wheel spacers fitted - I don't know if the spacers are necessary or not. They were on the car when I got it...

I've got 185/70 15's on my '65 911. The tyres are on 5.5 inch steel wheels, but it doesn't have any spacers or anything like that.
You won't have any fit problems, if you think that the 911R is still a narrow bodied SWB car and that's on 7 inch rears, although I think the rear wing lip is rolled a little. A lot of the guys in the States use 6 inch Fuchs with 195 or 205 tyres without problems. Personally I think the 185 is an ideal between grip and feel. Especially considering your 912 is about 100kgs lighter.
Cheers

I had 185/70 on my 1967 with 15x4.5 inch steel rims, 185/70 with a 5.5 inch rim should be ok. I have a friend running 195/60 on 15x5.5 steels with no problems.
