...up the wrong tree?

I have a desire to put 4.5 steel wheels on my one two.

Are these expensive? I have 5.5 but with the tyres that are on them they rub the shocks even with 5mm spacers.

So I fancy some 4.5 (I like the skinny look) but my question is, are they expensive and hard to get hold of??? If so, I will knock it on the head now. So what size tyre should I use on a 5.5 for it not to rub??? (I want to ditch the spacers also)

and what sort of tyre size should be on them? I've heard talk of smart car tyres being used. I assume that these have shorter tyre wall and therefore make the car lower.

if you go onto the 912 register theres a set with tyres in the for sale section 280 pounds i think

you might be getting confused with 4.5" Fuchs, they ARE expensive

yep the fuchs are expensive but you can get them from vw heritage pretty reasonably priced.

just got myself to a set of 4.5 at the front and 5.5 at the rear fully polished should be arriving this afternoon.

I'll vouch for the smart tyres too... i have two sets of steels on my 356: a set of 4" silver rims with skinny/fat smarts - and a set of 5.5/6" mangels with smart rear treads on the front and 186/60 on the back... a really great set up but i did have to grind the bumpstops off to fit the 6"s on the back without rubbing

louis356 you are my type of person. I just think that the 912 looks best with 4.5 steels and skinny tyres and it will make the handling more balanced and fun

Andy, aren't those more likely to be 5-on-205mm "wide-five" bolt-pattern? Unless off a 356C that is...
