Importing a 914?

Anyone got any experience of importing a 914 from the US?
I am vaguely thinking of getting a 914 for competition use (vaguely because I can't really afford it at the moment unless I sell a couple of other competition cars so this is a medium term aspiration!!) and they seem to be more prevalent in the US. There are several for sale on this site:
http://www.race-cars.com/
but I expect that the construction rules would be very different in the UK.
There are also cars like this available:
http://www.camp914.com/cars/bee.html
I'd like something to run in either the SR & GT Challenge series (http://www.srgtc.org.uk/) or the Classic Sports Car Club's "Swinging Sixties" series (http://www.classicsportscarclub.co.uk/S ... 2060s.html) (they are flexible (ish) on car age!).
Most cars seem to have 6 cylinder conversions & this is OK, although I am aware of a couple of VW engined versions which claim prodigous power.
Anyone got any thoughts on any of this.
Thanks
