My name is jeremy and I have just sold my gorgeous 1966 MGB roadster and am looking to buy an old porsche. I am interested in the 80's 3.2 carreras but need to be advised which car is best for me. Im 26 years old and have always loved classic cars, im not at an age where i can afford too much but i really want to buy a porsche so have joined this forum for help and advice in my purchase. My parents and friends say im crazy for wanting one and that it will cost me loads of money so im taking every precaution i can to make sure i get the right buy. I have around £10,000 to spend and look forward to becoming a full time member here once i have made my buy.

Jez - welcome - you've hit the nail on the head....the best investment you can make in a Porsche purchase is time and source a good well looked after car.

DDK focuses on pre-imapct bumper (1974) cars, but ther is a wealth of knowledge here on all things Porsche - but we will encourage you from time to time to head down the pre '74 path

There is also another site (which someone will post cos I can't remember it) which focuses on impact bumper cars which is a great resource.

Feel free to ask for advice and come to meets to get a feel for what's available and some of the pitfalls

Not sure about your budget - again others here will know more than I - I'd have thought that it's do-able??

big welcome to DDK,

expense wise, i don't think old porsches are any more expensve to run than any other older car. in my experience Italian cars are the most expensive.

infact a well looked after older Porsche could infact be abit of an investment.



at your age and budget i would suggest you might want to look at a 912 (theres a very good 912E in the for sale section of this forum) or save yourself some money and go for either a 924 or 944. they would give you a foot in the door and allow you to gain good porsche knowlage and friends all well within your budget. theres always a few for sale on www.porsche-1.com

thanks guys, im looking at 912's as well as old 911's i just fancied sometehing a little bit newer after owning a 66' for the last 7 years. Im just gonna take my time but everyone on here has been great and offered me loads of good advice I just hope im still welcome if i decide on something post 74'

This forum specially focus on pre 74 cars but also this forum has an incredible contribution to the later porsches, so feel free to ask anything you want, I'm sure there will be an answer to you.

And about buying and old porsche, is an investment and you would not regret it. You can buy and old porsche and use it daily and you can also find a nice 911 for that price, I just bought one at the price of 13500 american Dls (I'm in Mexico) and I'm using it as a daily driver before restoring it, and the only thing I can say is "There is no substitute". As the old porsche commertial.

Thanks a lot im really looking forward to getting one ive learnt such a lot already, ive joined impact bumbers and they are all really helpful but id like to stick around here too cause id love to come to some events and see the older style porches'. I think im gonna go for a 3.0 SC the insurance is better for me on those, as a 26 year old with 5 years no claims i thought the 3.2 would be pretty easy to insure myself on but apparently not! its quite expensive but the 3.0 SC is not too bad so i think im gonna concentrate on that model.

very nice cars too. choose well and you could get yourself a real bargin, don't wait too longthough as i predict prices are on the rise.

Your correct Helen, prices have been rising of later 911s, impact bumpered cars since I bought mine last September. This tends to happen when I buy into something
