DDK - Die Deutschen Klassiker

I'm thinking of replacing the lenses on my back lights and need to find some repro lenses to suit.
Has anyone got any recomendations of suppliers and what i can expect to pay.

My car has the early one piece light units.

I've seen some on ebay germany and italy - any thoughts?

I'd second that from Andy but it isn't the most straightforward of tasks - take your time and it is fine.

There was an article on this in 911& Porsche World last year, may be worth looking at the back issues, KS may be able to help. Did not look over complicated just time consuming and a bit fiddely.

I got a set of 4 from Russell for my 67 car, the amber sections seem to be a good match to each other, which is the usual the problem with repros. I've put one in place on a spare rear lamp unit I have, looks like it's going to be a fiddly one, probably best done over the course of a few evenings in front of the telly, must try and dig that article out

I've already had a look at whats involved and it doesn't seem too bad.
Like you say a few evenings in front of the box should do it.

Seems the trickiest part would be drilling out the existing rivets.

If anyone has that article i would appreciate a scan if possible.

It might be worth doing it as a step by step article for the site when i get round to doing it. I'm sure others would appreciate it too.

Basically the stages are:

1) drill out old hollow copper rivets

2) remove old lens - you will have to break the lens to do this

3) remove traces of old seal

4) clean up inside/outside of housing

5) trial fit new lens with both new rivets in place

6) splay out head of each rivet on the rear whilst supporting head of rivet*

7) melt over lens plastic tabs on rear of housing using a soldering iron

8 ) apply a thin bead of clear silicon to seal around the edge of the lens/housing

9) stand back & admire your work !

* I use a short length of (8mm ?) wooden dowel placed vertically in a vice to support the front & a medium-sized centre punch to splay out the (rear) end of the hollow rivets.
