Heated rear window query

My heated rear window did not work when purchased (I was advised by Tuthills so no issue there). I have the switch and this lights when pulled. Whilst I have the interior refurb on-going, where does the wiring run to the rear, and is there any way to check it, or the screen ?

Additionally, does anyone have the 'rubber cover' that goes over the switch, as mine is just black with the red centre light.

As far as i can remember the wiring is in the main loom, through the tunnel and branches out at the back of the engine compartment (lhs) to the relay. The wires then branch off and up through the rear parcel shelf. Have you got a 2 stage heater window.?

cheers,
nick.

Nick,

I do I tell what a two stage heated window is ?

I will look for the wires and report back.

Mines NEVER worked either,

If the knob both twists+ pulls
I think at least that denotes a Two part system,
although as I say, mines never worked so not certain

see what you mean about the switch gear

should be able to pick up a matching type to existing one

I could have sworn that was a picture of my dash on Pelican :) See here :-

Image

My dash was I believe 'tan' as this was the original interior colour, but the PO tried to colour it black. I have new vinyl on the way from Southbound.

Is that knob you picture the correct piece for a 73T, as the only photo I have of one is this :-

This was a reply to my post on Pelican :-

...that is the correct switch for your rear window heater...it's just missing the soft rubber surround like the one shown on the lighter. The surround should contain a red transparent plastic dish that has wavy lines inside a box as the symbol. Symbol done in white. This lights up when the switch knob is pulled out.

Thanks art-of-noise, but I really need one with the 'soft rubber' surround and white logo in it. Still need to find it it twists and pulls (like my rear fog did on my 3.2 Carrera!)

My rear windows is a 2 stage, 3 wires connects to the heated rear window. There is a relay (item 6 in the service manual) in the engine compartment only for the 2 stage. My switch for the screen is a black pull type with a illuminated centre, it might not be the original.
cheers

mine broke off and ( wires) and I thought it would put too much heat into the glass to resolder them so I left it well alone.. does any one know different cos if I can get it to work then might as well as it's all there..
