Anyone have any images of

By 'doing this' do you intend
distressing paintwork
perhaps patinage as well

where would you start

The car was originally tangerine but re painted gold at some point but it was just a quick blowover so the gold could be painstakingly removed revealing the original paint underneath, the sills are a bit rusty, and there are a few knocks and bangs on it,but I think it would look good, old dull tangerine with scuffs and knocks,or I could just matt black the whole thing and chalk some stripes on it?!!

I think Derek and I are heading for a dubious 911 Rat-Look combo pairing: albeit out of necessity rather than coolness   .

If you did this you would be both a villain and a legend. Have you checked-out http://www.hoodride.com?

Cool! I'm pretty sure that Retro Steve has motored around in a couple of sun bleached Cali imports at one time or another :)

don't want to offend, but Fudgemeisters 912e has a certain patina and looks cool for it, although its not what you would call 'rat look' a term which is I think frowned upon by proper old time rodders.

Rat Look is really 'as found' and the reason why its got a bit of a bad name in the 'ol rodders fraternity is really because the younger generation (us I guess !) have adopted it it as an easy way to get a cooler looking car. They- the older rodders- esp in the US, are normally, well, from the magazines I have read, of a certain retirement age, and have the money to build cars- plus, being older- they are slightly more concerned with safety. This is fair enough- as some 'rat rods' are cobbled together to the extreme!
I am hoping to pattinate my 356- because it really was too far gone to be a viable resto (esp on my budget!) and because, damn, they look cool.
Also, coming from the VW scene, I got dead bored with looking at shiny bugs all restored to look the same.

Id do it !

Likewise,

I'd be happy tooling about in a distressed look rocket.

An earlier time saw the removal of door interior panel
which earned the dubious sobriquet of custom car enthusiast'
but,

Its really not some effort to coolness on the sly,
but a statememt in difference,
to the great and 'meguired' good
who inhabit cyberspace,

and they are indeed legion....

Got any more pics cubist? I do like the idea of a rat look 911. I've googled around and can't find anything.
