Heavenly bodies

Not....

The ali throttle bodies on my 2.2 S spec engine have bags of spindle play.
Previous owner did the pump but not the bodies some years ago. I'm sure others out there have had similar problems. Anybody care to recommend persons competent in this area

If not I will just take a risk down the local machine shop or try a carb rebuild specialist.

Car runs OK as it is but I want to get this sorted and take it to Bob Watson's in the Spring as he produced such good results with my other car on his rolling road.

Rather than disable the car I thought I might try and pick up another pair of bodies and overhaul those instead. Anybody got a kn*ckered pair of bodies surplus to requirements 2.2S spec

Finding fair/good 2.2S bodies is not easy, unless you want to pay ££.

I would help more but things are a little busy at the moment so if you can strip them (remove the butterflies) I can get the bushes done for you.

As Alan says, rebushing is not too hard.

The problems arise with corrosion, and spindle wear casuing damage to the plates and bores.

Also, if the spindles are worn or rusty its not too easy to recon them.

And worn bushes allow the plates to fret in the bore and make a groove.

The resulting air leak cannot be cured by improving the bearing play..it needs over size butterflies and sleeveing the bore.

I have set of good 2.2S TB's which I would swop for the cost of rebuilding yours.

I had one pair done by Bob Tyler and am quite pleased with the results. I had another pair done by Matt Blast from Eurometrix with equal results. Both are not exactly cheap but after a mishap with a local "rebuilder" I decided to opt for quality. I found some differences in the work done, Bob used new butterfly valves, Matt used the old ones and made them a bit larger by rolling the outer part of the valve. This makes them a bit thinner, not sure what will be best in the long run. Another difference is that Eurometrix does a yellow zink while Bob had a silver finish. Take a look at exchange rates and lead times and decide for yourself.
