DDK - Die Deutschen Klassiker

Putting my 912 back together I have lost one of the two bolt that goes on the front gearbox bracket into the rubber moutings on the chassis and also the long bolt that attaches the starter motor (goes through Bell housing and gearbox. Anyone out there who can assist?

The gear box ones have a tapered end, as seen in the pic. I may have a spare and will check tomorrow.

No, I have one bolt and it's only about 1 inch long and all threaded with no taper.

To make it absolutely clear - there is a steel bracket which attaches to the rear of the gearbox which has at each end, where one bolts it to the rubber mountings, holes for the bolt and also a smaller dowel hole which locates the bracket on the rubber mounting which has the dowel moulded in it.

I'm told that it is a large metric thread. I would remove the one I have but I'm worried that the gearbox will drop.

The other bolt I'm after is the very long bolts that attches the starter motor to the bellhousing/gearbox. This is not as important as I can easily get a suitable bolts that I can modify to self lock as the original had part of it's edge removes so that it locked agains the casting of the starter. VW use the smae sort but I think theirs is shorter but I will try one.

I think I see why it was thought that the missing transmission bolts was tapered - it's from a later model, mine is a 1968.

I have a picture of the missing bolt but don't know how to attach it.

Yes, got your email and the picture showed quite clearly the bolt I nee i.e no 36.

Do you know the size of No. 36? I'll see if I have anything.

Unfortunately I only have access to the car at weekends and this weekend I'm away up north. I will attempt to get the bolt measurements when I get to the car the following weekend. However, where the car is has lots of bolts but none had the same thread pitch so it's not a coomon metric thread. The length is no more than 2cms threaded part.

OK No worries, I thought Alan's picture had the sizes on, like the thread sizes.

Is the picture the same as the drawing you emailed?

It may be a metric fine thread if appears unusual.

Yes his picture looked almost the same but he had more identification numbers and to the side only partially in view was the key. I have asked him where he located the picture.

Part number 36 is:

M12 x 1.5 ... 18mm long

Thanks for the measurements we have a specialist dealer for all sorts of odd ball bolts so I will go there Monday.
