what does the ET numbers mean?

I assume that 2 are 911 wheels and 2 are 944 wheels are both sets the same?

ET is the offset of the wheel - see the image below for explanation:

Thanks Andy, the above picture is worth saving for reference when looking for suitable wheels.

Us Europeans work mainly with ET, but the Americans work mainly with backspace.

What offest should I be looking at for my 912?

I've got some steel wheels (5.5) but just to make sure that they fit.

1980's vintage if I recall (will have to have a look - but where?)

Louis,

I think that you should be looking for the ET42 911 wheels.

The ET should be stamped into the wheel, on the ones I have just sold it was stamped into the face between the wheel nuts.

i think

the 911 and 944 use a similar but different front ub
-in fact i know they do, althought they use the same disc
-the 911 hub is farther out board
-the 944 farteher in board

spindles maybe similar

ie a 944 steel space saver may rub a 911/2 front arch

I may be able to help, I've got 2 or 3 of these wheels in my garage roof space that I was getting ready to ebay. They are 5.5 x 15 not sure of the ET though, I'll check tomorrow if you're interested.

Brian.
