very crossed up on damp road this afternoon

I was very lucky not to collect a wall or worse so apart from the fact I need to learn respect again I think I would like to get a new set of tyres.
I was looking for a set and noticed someone in the forum recommending Pirelli P7s I looked on tyretest.com and noticed that P6s come out even better - but then that is just someone who probably drives a normal cars opinion. Where can I find out what to get. I expect someone on ddk must know.
I want the best grip I can find especially in damp conditions.
What about Pirelli P6 195/65 R15 91V?
BTW I cannot justify a set of xwx for this!
