the sad thing is that before i cut the badly welded in panel out it all looked reasonably ok!!
A warning to anyone buying a 14 that what looks solid is not always as solid as you think.

I remember the 914 I bought from Phil Johnson a few years back - on the outside it didn't look too bad then on closer inspection most of the inner structure around the battery area had just disappeared!
I was lucky with my orange '14 that someone else had done all the welding prior to my buying it and had done a pretty good job. Shame the then owner decided to drive into something at high velocity and shorten the car somewhat!

That goes for all cars in my experience
My teener looks super solid but I won't deny I'm feeling a little worried about actually strippinf all the paint off
