After a few days or rolling around in the cold, some rain, wind on my folks driveway, I've finally got around to getting the car running again and went for my first drive since July today. Now I know why I was so keen to get it going again, what a blast
After a lot of umming and erring, about whether to do a six, a big four or just stock rebuild, I eventually gave in due to the outlandish costs involved and located a very good low mileage Euro 2.0 longblock from Germany plus a complete D-jet system and a few other bits n bobs, new clutch, gaskets, powder coated tin etc etc.. and delivery to my door was a mere 130 euro on a refirgerated truck
Very happy I went this route now, the conversion from carbs back to d-jet was relatively straight forward, just some fueling and electrics to deal with, but what a difference from carbs and the old motor, the car is soooo much smoother to drive now, holds a nice steady idle and is very civilised on the road.
I can't wait to have another go now
Just thought I'd share my happy news

good work Dazza!
FI will always be smoother than carbs, although you might find you miss the induction noise, but then again on long distances arriving without a buzzing headache is a bonus.
You should see better mpg too

Darren, it's the near perfect weight distribution and twisties fun that I look forward to. Only problem is i know I'll want one - how to explain that one to the Mrs

Easy - "there's loads of room for the shopping"

If only, Tim! Shopping is never an issue, but my persuit of a wider vehicle portfolio certainly is. Still, I'm playing the long game and as they say persistence is the key

Darren, must've missed this thread, but I'm seriously impressed with the swap back to F.I.
I've always thought the swap back would be really tricky -maybe you just made it look easy or it's a healthy slice of modesty.

Thanks James, the bolt on stuff was obvious. I had the longblock on a stand and put everything back on like a big jigsaw puzzle. Between the Haynes, Clymer and Cypress manuals i had all the info I needed for the vaccum lines, fuel and electrics, it wasnt that bad really
Only snag I came up against was a lack of fuel delivery, the fuel pump had a + and - on it which is how I wired it in, and it did pump, but on checking for fuel the supply lines were dry
Dave Darling suggested I reverse the terminals on the pump, so off it came, bench tested with connections both ways and surely enough, the + was - and visa versa, plumbed it all back in, reversed the terminals and after priming the system the car fired up on the first turn....va va VOOOOOM
Whilst checking for oil leaks etc i noticed fuel spewing out from the front of the car....I never checked the return line at the tank end did I
So that was a tank out job to rectify this little oversight
after that I ran it until warm set the timing, buttoned everything up and off i went for my first run in the car since the end of July, it felt great

.
I'm just waiting for the correct fuel pump mounting hardware from Brays now and that's it, just in time for the crap weather
