My name is Bill and I live about 30 minutes out of Detroit. I'm only sixteen, but I have fallen in love with the early 911s and and other Porsches.
I didn't like any Porsche at all until I started reading Sports Car International. At that point all I cared about was Italian exotics that were not that focused on driving excitement. I read what they had to say about the car and I wanted to Know more about the 911. That night i picked up a copy of Total 911 at a bookstore and became obsessed with the early models. I no longer care about Lamborghini or anything like that. I have found a company that makes focused drivers cars that are reliable.
I found this site by an editor of Sports Car International. That magizine and this site look like keepers. I can not wait for the day that I can buy my first 911.

i too only had eyes for Italian cars intill the day i was handed the keys of a Porsche Boxster (6+ years ago) and as they say the rest is history

I'm currently in the US, based in South Carolina, but in South Dakota most of this week.....bit disappointed, haven;t seen many early Porsche's in SC....in fact just 1 914
Hope you get to see more in Detroit!!!

Welcome - I still haven't got over my fascination with Italian sportscars - but my head has always overruled my heart when it comes to buying cars...
How you getting on over in the States Viv?

Everything is good up here in Michigan, but now that the cold weather is on its way most Porsches are under their covers. There is a Porsche dealer about five miles from my home, but only new cars. About six months ago a guy with a 356 on my street moved away. That was disappointing but he never drove it anyway.

Pretty good ta - actually heading back to the UK for Thanksgiving weekend (it'll get far too American for me that weekend). Gonna head str8 to Cardiff to see the folks (oooh yeah and see Wales beat the All Blacks
)....maybe try and get together

i wasn't into Porsche for ages -bit rebellious against the things at home- but once I was bitten by the bug, it never left me.
I actually started to learn English
(yes I still have loads to learn I hear some say ) by reading Classic Cars and Classic and Sports Car magazine so I appreciate good journalism about these things.
I hope you find DDK a welcome place for a hungry mind.

As a matter of fact, I'm sorely tempted to stop writing this right now and keep it all to myself. I might just gorge myself on the experience, gloat in the hedonism and smile the smile of one who keeps a naughty secret to himself. yes i sometimes wonder just how many cars there are tucked away in peoples garages, polished towithin a inch of their lives and never driven, my father lives in a estate of bungalows most owned by retired people many of them have classic cars tucked away....sad.
