DDK - Die Deutschen Klassiker

Had little time to investigate but it wouldn't start this morning. It eventually did and idled ok but is missing. I'll take it for a run tomorrow (if I can start it) and see how it's doing.

The CDI is whistling with power to it. I'm guessing that even this is not a sign of it running well though?

I thought maybe a new set of leads, check connections etc. at the weekend may solve it - we shall see.

A whistling CDI is no indicator that you have agood CDI box.
There's two seperate parts to the CDI, the part that whistles generates the 400V. There is also a trigger part (uses a thyristor) . A temperature and missfire problem is more likely in the trigger part of the box. A dead box that doesn't even whistle is more likely the 400V generator.

That's what I thought. If the offer is still there Tim I'd love to borrow your CDI to test things. Tell you what, in return how about two front light units (one perfect and one not so) FOC

On it's way

Further Up-date.

Spent the morning putting new rotor arm, points etc. Cleaning earths, checking connections. Still no joy.

THEN...

Took the CDI box off in prep to try Tim's out when it arrives. Whilst it was out decided to take it to bits. Meant very little when I looked at it all but there was a wire that had seemed to earth out and burn through onto the metal cover plate. Rectified that, cleaned up all the connections and put it back on. Bingo!

It's running like a dream. Just been for a 20 mile spin in the Autumnal sunshine - happy Bootsy and the Bumble Bee has lost it's pig status.

Tim, if you've sent yours I'll still borrow it if I may, I'll get mine recon'd for peace of mine. Our local Bosch agent sends them head office at Denham apparently - any experience of this?

If you haven't sent it yet then don't worry about sending it. The lights are still yours for your generous offer.

Glad you've found the problem. I've no idea how comprehensive the Bosch service is , but I'd be interested to know the before and after differences. Pop the back off take a picture. get it re-conned and take another picture
Well I don't see me needing mine back for a while... car is now with Barry for a bit of TLC.
