Hi,

I am helping a friend and have just started my next project.
Here we go again

Image

I have got the car running, but it still needs a lot of work. I have been stripping it the last few days and it is almost ready for welding, which starts next week. As the car is a UK car and not been used for some time (1988 ish) most of the bolts were rusted in. The MFI pump alone took me 2 days to clear out.

Do you think I need a rear wing?

Image

The car has some very original parts to it, amongst others I love the fact you can still see the painters signature.

Thanks

Alan

Hi Alan
Are you going to have it dipped or strip the paint by hand? Or maybe even just a quick wash n polish?

I just couldn't face doing a job like that, but I'm sure you will have fun and that in a couple of weeks (sic!) you will be posting pictures of a lovly restored car.

Hi,

Well I have just finished stripping the engine down to the long block, yuck it was covered in 36 years of gunk - nothing a good pressure wash and lots of scrubbing couldn't deal with. Also manage to only snap 4 of the exhaust studs :x they were almost welded on.

The car will be stripped to bare metal by hand, but the hard areas (shuts) will probably get blasted. It will be painted in base and clear in its original colour - Roman Purple, which I think will look great, as you don't see many early 911s in that colour.

Thanks

Alan

After posting the pic above with the painters signature, I remember seeing an original Porsche promo movie from 1973. It's on youtube, and is called "06 Paint and Assembly".

Anyway, you see a chap sign a car after painting it, and it looks like the same signature as mine! Infact I am sure it is

Here is the one of the video from 1973

Here is mine,

So this the chap that actually sprayed the Royal Purple on the car shown on my previous post?

What was the odds of finding that?

They were getting complaints when they were signing in the paint on the middle of the bonnet. Hence the change to under the dash top.

Hi,

I agree all this is very cool, and it may have got even cooler 8)

I am told that the car was original sold to the Babycham girl (the one out of the adverts). I am doing some searching and I think this is her. (1973)

I will continue to search for more info, this car has such a great history record. It also has all of it's stamped up service history, in the original maintenance record back to its first service after 562 miles!

So a bloke with massive side boards painted it and then a babycham girl drove it - very cool.
