Interior Mirror removal

Hi
I want to remove my interior mirror. Its the break away type. I have been told to twist the mirror to release it - any more suggestions as it just wont budge.
The glass is buggered and i really need to get the mirror off to try and fix it.
Does it itwist - is it a certain way - do i need to roll one trouser leg up and give it a funny hand shake?
