I have just purchased my first porsche a 1974 2.7 911 which has been modified to a track car. I want to use the car both on the road and the track. It is currently paintd orange turquoise and purple. My wife can't live with it so i need to find what colours would be appropriate for the year and spec. It has a 2.7 rs engine suspension etc so i could turn it into a replica rs but everyone does that. I think i have seen pictures of early impact bumper 2.7rs. can anyone confirm? All advice and information gratefully received.

Hi, Welcome to DDK.

The '74 wasn't an RS as such but a Carrera, same basic engine and running gear though, and can come with the ducktail. This is Nigel's lovely lime green car that won the Classic Le Mans Porsche prize and gets used for hillclimbing:

Welcome Vincent to the forum, I'm sure that some anal person on here (Andy or Mike are you reading this    ) will be able to give you all the paint codes for that year and model. But honestly we're not a bad bunch of mavericks!

p.s. Lime Green is not a bad start 8)

Hi and welcome

I would start off with a few reference books such as Peter Morgans Orginal 911 and Paul Frere's the 911 story, as well as Mark Haab's The 1974-1989 911 912E and 930 Porsche books.

the rest will follow. If your car is already repainted and non original, you might want to repaint it in any colour you (and your wife) likes.

its not the "salzburg enigma" by any chance you purchased?

Best regards,

bert

Can't be me he's talking about. Must be another Mike.

If you can narrow your colour choice down a bit I'm sure we could post some pics for you. Otherwise have a trawl about this site for some pictures of member cars which cover lots of early Porsche colours. Try the past events section. You'll be there all night........
and welcome by the way.

Regards
Mike

PS If you want a list of all the 1974 colours The Little Red Book will tell you or failing that we can list them for you.
