Gears crunching

Started with just reverse but now it's spread to first. Standing still neither will go in without a serious crunching sound that makes me wince. If I'm rolling first goes in no trouble.

Any thoughts?

John.

check your clutch adjustment first.

Check also your, linkage bushings and gearbox mounts, if still no joy brace yourself for a rebuild of first and reverse due to a worn slder and/or synchrohub as I've just completed (before discovering I am also in for an engine rebuild  ), see pics in the following thread:

As above plus reverse will always crunch unless you are stationary and have had the (properly clearing) clutch down for a second or two so the box stops. It just smacks two gears into each other, now such luxuries as synchros on there. :)

Clutch adjustment is key :)

Ouch. After a new dizzy and starter this years maintenance budget is looking a little thin.

The crunching in reverse is at dead stand still. Had never happened before until about two weeks ago.

Definitely a dragging clutch. I'm not familar with the release mechanism on the 901 box, but on most boxes a couple of turns on the nut on the end of the cable and you'll be sorted :) Not a big (or expensive) job.

Cheers Gary.

I'm dropping it in to get an O ring replaced on Friday so I'll mention it then.

Also get the oil changed not a big job but can help as well. I found it solved a huge number of problems in my E when I did it..
