Hi everyone, I'm new with this of the porsche fanatism and I have several questions about buying a porsche. I want to buy one (I was thinking in a Targa, I'm like it a lot), but with friend showed up an option of a 1969 911 E that looks pretty nice, but I don't know If I would buy something nice(talking about being well optioned porsche), the car it is pretty nice.
My friend bought the car in a carshow and now he wants to sell it, but I don't know how easy would be to tune it up (2.0 liter) and make some personal changes like the ducktail(since I saw in the on-line stores and it said that the ones they sell are from 74 and up).

Here come my question:
¿ What I would have to take a lot of care when I buy a 69(what it is the rarest thing to check that the car has it)?

And the 2 stupid questions above, of the ducktail(if I have to make some changes in the body or something) and the tune up ( have some extra hp )?

welcome to DDK. to be honest im a bit of a purest when it comes to the older Porsches and i hate to see them "improved".....why change a good thing?

but each to their own and i know i am speaking for myself on this subject so im sure others will be along shortly with some advice on how to change things on your car.

Regarding your questions about knowing how to buy an old 911:

2. Get yourself a fair amount of dineros aside: there is no such thing as a cheap porsche. Even a good one will cost money. You suddenly get hooked on wanting to improve things or on Ebay you find things you never thought you were after!

3. Power in a porsche: all is relative. 85% of porsche drivers (old statistic I heard from a Belgian porsche racing driver) cant get the factory acceleration out of their car. First learn how to drive it properly, then scoop in a fast 3.0 or 3.2 engine which can relatively easy be done. a 1969 E has IIRC 140 bhp. Not a lot.

then come back and see whether you are man enough to handle a 911 with more than 200 bhp.

4. Ducktails: I have a ducktail on my car. A ducktail was introduced with the Carrera 2.7 Rs. This car had also slightly wider arches (carrera "hips"). A ducktail looks good with wider hips -(This is entirely personal obviously, and taste and colour can never be seriously discussed)- but it really spoils the line of an earlier car.

For a 1969, most people would feel very privileged indeed to own an original car because they are fairly rare. I feel that you should leave her original or go for a later car such as a 911 SC or 911 Carrera, "common" cars that you can modify away!

Thx for you answers, have been helpful I'll tyr to post some pics of the car, so you can check it I'm trying really hard to get it, I might sell one of my cars trying to buy a Carrera Targa 74. I'll keep posting all the upcomming news

if you require any help, then please do not hesitate to post; plenty of expertise here on the forum.

However, the ROW (rest of the world) Carrera 2.7 had the engine of the Carrera 2.7 RS with engine designation 911/83 with 210 bhp on mfi.. The US version of the carrera 2.7 used the engine of the 911 2.7 S with 175 bhp on k-jetronic due to emissions standards.

People are paying sometimes hefty premiums for a "carrera", so take that into consideration.
