DDK - Die Deutschen Klassiker

Just a quick post to say that I have been over to Francis Tuthill and collected my 'new' 1973 911 T/E now running on Webers.

More pics and info to follow, but just wanted to share for now.

Lots of detail cleaning and zillions of little improvements to come in the future - looking forward to meeting up with the pre impact bumper crowd.

It looks really nice.
I saw it in the barn some time ago and thought about it for a while. at the time I was looking for one with a sunroof.
Were the back bumpers changed? I remember there being the big rubber ones on the front but cannot remember the back.
What it like? Are you happy with it?

I saw it in the barn about a year ago, just after it had been imported. Francis had driven it and at that time given it a 'clean bill of health', but noted it was too good as a basis for a rally car !

You are correct in thta I asked them to remove the US front overriders and they changed the rears to the chrome ones you see know.

Car is just fully serviced, generally cleaned and tidied (plenty of scope for me to improve it though) and ready to go for the next year without me having to worry about it - I hope. They also shutz(!) blacked in the front trunk area and the top of the tank. No accident repairs, and under thw good advise of Nick Moss I got it on the ramp and asked them to point out where it usually rusts, and saw that it is solid.

I am very happy with it. The ride is far more engaging than my 86 Carrera (loved that car) and gives me that 'classic' feel when using it.

I particularly like the white / black combo.

The reason I was particularly interested was that I too have bought through Francis - although mine is still in California awaiting a boat. Mine also has the rubber over-riders and us spec lights - that I want to lose in favour of the European ones.
Did you get them (Tuthills) to do the waxoyling? - if so did they get into all the box sections? It is something I need to get done before I use it.
Also I was rather surprised to see a M number plate as I thought 73 was L - did you get a choice of numbers?

I simply mentioned to Richard (Tuthill) that I wanted a smooth European look and he changed the bumper fittings with spares that he already had.

The waxoyl hasn't actually been done yet - I went over on Thursday and the plan was for them to do it Friday, but it pi**ed it down so they 'owe me'. I will pop over and get it done at the same time as the front carpet (also owed to me as the trimmer is on holiday).

I need to query the registration with the DVLA. Tuthill registered the car with a manufactured 1st Sept 1973. It is a 1973 model but I will need to get Porsche to supply the actual manufacture date so I can get it on a 'L' as 1972 or 1973. VIN shows it is a 1973, but I think that just relates to the model year.
