Hopefully going to have a set of new discs all round fitted over wintertime and have been told by a few that venting them will help alot if your driving hard on the brakes.

Firstly is it true? If it is , where can i get it done?

Next one.... Can anyone vouch for a certain type of pads that would be best suited?? Going to be hill climbed /sprint occasionally so a pad that maybe others have used doing similar type of driving.

Cheers dan

Dan
Try ebc for pads and they also do vented disks although not sure if they do them for 914's. Alternatively need to find out if Beetle/variant discs will fit as there are various available from the VW custom shops (machine7). Need to make sure that the calipers will still fit though.
May be worth getting 911 suspension on the front which will give you vented discs and bigger calipers but means you will have 5 stud hubs (and wheels).

I agree with Ad.

Spending money on the 4-cylinder front brakes is not cost-effective..or effective at all really!

The whole 911 front strut hubs vented dsicks and calipers is a bolt-on job..and the bits to refurb are really cheap, and excellent..

The rears do not need anything done, apart of course from the biennial rebuild of the poxy calipers..and redrill for 5-bolts to fit the oligatory Fuchs of course!
Drilling discs is risky..

Kind regards
david

Dan correct me if I'm wrong but it's UP hillclimbing...so why the need for braking at all!!!!

I've heard good thing about EBC pads as well.

With regards to the 914 braking system, I gave mine a fresh set of discs, new pads (can't remember which ones, certainly not fancy ebc or anything), rebuilt rear calipers, new brake lines and a very properly bled system, I mean you really do have to bleed, bleed and bleed them again, and I found my 914 brakes very good, and never felt the need for an upgrade. I think if i had rebuilt the front calipers as well they would be even better. Worth a try as you've already got a new pair of front discs  then what are you in for a few hundred quid tops? Ultimately I agree with Adam and David, the 911 setup is better but unless you buy a very good front end it could cost you double to refurb it (which you may as well do if it's out). Just my tuppence worth. If your front end is in good shape (i.e bushings/shocks) then I'd stay with the stock stuff until you get more competitive, then maybe think about a 911 setup.

btw I have EBC greenstuff on the front of my Targa, does seem like they take a few presses on the pedal to warm, but overall I'm happy with them.

Pads - don't have experience of EBCs on Porsches but on other cars the greens & reds squeal BIG time - I'd look at getting Pagid Blues or Ferrodo DS2500 - I'm sure I'll get shot down here!

As for drilling disks remember if this is done after the manufactiring process, i.e heat treatment, Q&T / anealing etc your asking for trouble once you introduce heat. If you really want vented/drilled discs buy them that way.

As said by the guys already - most of the work is done at the front so concentrate there and just refurb the rear std calipers

just my 2p's worth
