Do I need the special tool for tightening the shocks in the strut?

According to Pelican posts I do but I'm sure there are many here who've done the job with a hammer and chisel.

Anyone got one can borrow?

Not a chisel, just an old chunky flat screwdriver

Hmm. Not the solution I was looking for Gary. Have they held OK? The tool is £12 + vat + delivery. I may buy one - seems a small price to pay to never have to manhandle then out again to tighten them up again. I spent Sunday getting one complete strut off the car and then getting the old Boge insert out and fitting the new one. I feel like I've been beaten up!

Couldn't get the old insert out without removing the whole lot at the balljoint and putting it in a vice. I'm guessing the alignment/tracking will still be OK?

Where did you locate the tool Nick? I need to do mine shortly and would like to preserve my screwdrivers

Glenn, Bilstein are in Leicester. They've got a website but its hard to find. Phone number is 01455 283407. I've deleted the link now my tool has arrived. You can borrow mine if you want, its the least I can do after you lent me your coil. I won't be needing it now for a while ( I hope).

Gary, I have this rubber stop on my Boge front shocks. Should it be put on the Bilsteins? It looks like there isn't room.

Thanks for the offer. I bought one in the end. I see what you mean about the web site. I gave the Bilstein a call, they believed that they did not have the a tool and I would have to call BOGE. I quoted the reference stamped on the photo at the start of this topic MS08/06 and they were able to locate it

the car got straight through the MOT this week with an advisory to get the front shocks done.......no excuses now, I'll have to get my hands dirty.
