I recently had a small fuel leak from the fuel filter.
I took it apart and cleaned all the connections and the leak is sorted.

I now find that the car takes a long time to start after its been left for a day or two. This appears to be while the fuel system pressure builds up again.

Is this likely to be caused by a fuel leak still in the system or is it the non return valve in the fuel pump?

The symptoms indicate that its the fuel pump but it seems to be too much of a coincidence that it started after I had sorted the fuel leak.

Anyone any experience of this?

Anyone know what the start enrichment solenoid that sits on top of the fuel filter does?

And would this cause the problem?

Yes, could be..

The solenoid valve opens in a cold start situation to spray neat petrol into the intakes..a common cause of fires, but also a big help with starts..

The valve may be U/S..

Test that
a) use a voltmeter to test there is current sent to it when the motor is started up (it's the grey wire that connects to the top)
b) that the valve actually works- disconnect the small pipe which connects the back of the air box, put it in a jar and again get some one to turn the key. There should be a squirt of fuel.

If they click when connected and disconnetced to 12V..this is usually a giood sign.

Only other test in situ. involves perol evrywhere..not recommended!

As David says don't test (b) on your own.

Tested the solenoid and it works and tested the grey cable and there is power there.

Couldnt do the other test because the car now starts quickly having been started a few times.

I did find another leak behind the MFI which is now sorted. I am assuming this could be the cause. I'll have to leave the car overnight now and try again.
