A young guy in a BMW Z3 decided to overtake me on the roundabout then try and carve me up to get to his slip road. Result, his rear end grazed my front wing and ripped/cracked the front bumper. Paint wise each coner will need re-done, so...effictively the front end needs re-done.

HIS FAULT! Could have been much worse, so, I think I'll count this one as a lucky escape.

Anybody any idea how much Chesil charge for the following:-

a) Front Bumper
b) front trim strip
c) single nipple hubcap

really sorry to hear / see the results of being attacked by a hairdresser.

However, another salutory tip -

On Sheldonhurst cars [ and later of that ilk ] the bumper attachment was via a dumb iron that came off the front beam. A simple affair that attached via an exhaust clamp around the beam and then a piece of 30mm x 3mm strip as ye olde fashioned cars of the 50's and 60's that braced the back of the bumper. The rear end bracket [ dumb iron ] came off the lower rear cross bar that also acted as a support for the rear bodywork. That is to say the bumper ACTUALLY does something other than look pretty. As you can see from the pix - it didn't take much to rip thro' the GRP. OK - the bumper would then probably have been destroyed. But it's a force in the other direction that I would have been more wary of - ie if the crash had been head on. Fortunately GRP is VERY easy to repair. However, I would also like to see the pix of your fist in his mouth.

Hmmmm - now going back to seat belts / seat bases similarly attached.

Sorry to hear about the bump ! you must be gutted, I know would be.

If you are after a bumper, there is a guy local to me who is in the process of building a speedster and I know he is (or was) selling his bumpers as he was not going to fit them.

I havnt got his number but I should see him at the Cornwall Jamboree
(v dub show) this weekend and will get you the details if you are interested.

i called chesil today regarding bumpers, i think they were £100 each plus vat..obviously the trim etc will be on top of that!

APpreciate all the sympathies. Called him on his mobile yesterday. Initially got "Ya...hullo Babe" then he realised I wasn't his Babe and asked to call me back as he was driving. Some F*ckers just don't learn do they! I'm now actually wondering if he was on the phone when he carved me up.

It's now all going via Insurance so price isn't a concern. Parts were £224 from Chesil (Bumper/brackets(I was aware mine were not exactly wonderful!)hubcap and deco trim. What are the Chesil brackets like?

I did the paint myself but....sod giving up more of my time to keep the bill down. Got a quote from a local guy who is second to none. £465 to re do the front end.

The pisser is that parts will take at least 10 days so thats me grounded for the tail end of the summer while that d*ck is back on the road. Grrrrr!
