Why would anyone put a 916 on Ebay?

I think that sometimes Ebay acts as an amazing international shopw window for rarer stuff and helps actually gain higher prices for vehicles. I've sold a collectable vehicle through Ebay although the transaction ended up as a private one - the exposure it got though was not available in that amount of time and to that extent.

This 916 was on ebay about 4 years ago - I seem to remember that bidding reached $180,000 - & that the reserve wasn't met...

absolutely correct

this specific car is for sale for a really long time in CA

but it won't sell because the asking price is US$ 350,000

so I'm sure this auction is just a kind of a promotion activity

OK - free or nearly free marketing can't be bad.

So who knows where the last 916 made is at present?

I don't know the number - just been told its the last one. Even Porsche were surprised to hear of it a few years back, as they thought it had long since disappeared.

believe me ... Porsche doesn't know very much about the 916 :(

a couple of years back I asked Porsche for some info on these cars
2 weeks later I've got a mail - they had to do internet-research to answer my questions

at this point I decided to start intensive research on my own and got in touch with some owners
lots of the info I've got is confidential, but here's my info page with the "harmless info" :?

Andy gets this weeks star prize - Crispins 916 body shell has now been restored by Roger Bray and awaits its rebuild in sunny Devon.

I was reliably informed at the Silverstone Classic Weekend that the 916 shell was now finished.

Gustl looking at your page number 18 has a black interior in the picture, yet its brown on ebay. Do you know which was the original?
