Speedo
My speedo works when it's out of the car, with an allen key turning the drive, and my speedo cable turns when it's not connected to the speedo, but I don't get any indication of speed when I'm driving!
I'm guessing the cable drive is turning inside the speedo without touching the sides - is this repairable? - either by me or via a specialist speedo-repairer service somewhere out there?
Failing that, and as it's a KPH unit anyway, are any other speedos interchangeable?

Couple of points here - MPH speedos appear from time to time on Ebay, and possibly some DDKers may have one lurking about in their garages.
I had a similar problem with the speedo not working and found that the cable hadn't been completely tightened up at the back of the speedo.

I drove to work in the 914 this morning (roof on - it wasn't quite warm enough), so that I could fit and try the MPH unit Roger sent me at lunch time.
...and it's working!
Brilliant.
It's amazing how much more accelerative (?) the car feels with a speedo needle to watch climbing! - I think I've been pretty good at 'feeling' my speed at 30 and 40 mph, but what I've been treeting as 60 was closer to 70, and I've been skimming along at 4000 revs in 5th, thinking it was 75ish, but the speedo says it's closer to 90!
I think I'll charge the sat-nav up and take it for a drive to calibrate.
Thank you very much, Roger - cheque on it's way to you.

As it happens, it was raining as I showered and ate breakfast (two separate jobs there, one after the other), and I walked onto the drive with the keys to the Saab in my hand, looked at the standing water on the cars and at the (blueish, but cloudy) sky, and went back into the kitchen to grab Roger's speedo and swap ignition keys. I had to choose between 'roofless' and 'late-for-work', so I chose roof-on, in on time, and I'll go home topless
Some of my favourite memories of my motor-cycling days are from journeys where snow had fallen and I was riding on compacted snow under blue skies, home from my girlfriends (now wife) parents house - If weather conditions are right this winter, you can bet I'll be out there with my thinsulate gloves and wooly hat on, but my roof off
