Putting the suspicious package to one side I also had the pleasure of fitting the new bonnet today.

Porsche OE for the win on this one.

Absolutely nailed the fit .

Not bolted to the hinges yet, but this is a good start.

The time is approaching for the trip down south to Barry. Should be gone mid October and back for Xmas! Maybe I’ll tidy the garage before it gets back...

New light housing kindly donated by JohnM as my repaired housing cracked once I tried to fit it. Fits perfect

You must be well chuffed with the fit of that bonnet Gary - & the overall quality of the shell you've achieved.

it won't be long now before all of the 'dirty' jobs are finished & you'll be at that stage where you're bolting new/clean/freshly restored parts back into a painted shell ...

What a great story and some awesome skills at work.

Tell us more about the combination of wire wheels, brake cleaner or whatever else you use to get your metal so clean. I am about to tackle stone chip removal from the underside of my '73.

Also, and most importantly, where's the update!!

That’s commitment reading this all again.

Updates have been very thin on the ground as I’ve not touched it for a while.

Next update will be its arrival at Barry’s... not there yet but I’m literally counting the hours before I have to learn how to reverse a trailer

No secret to the clean metal. Just labour and elbow grease unfortunately.

From underseal to shiny steel:

#1 Heatgun and scraper. Get the worst of it off, if you are lucky it may come off in sheets

#2 6” steel wire brush on an angle grinder, combination of the cup ones and flat. Proper evil. Be careful, if you’ve read all the thread you’ve seen the scars!
To be honest this gets it 99% of the way there. You may have to go over it a few times as the residual coating melts and smears about so you need to let it (and the brush) cool down again then it comes off.

#3 Smaller copper coated wire brush in a drill for pre welding final finishing or just for making it look better.
