After a bit of a fettle to my 5.5 cylinder @3K rpm 3.2 engine in my 73T took it for a run.

Ran great, on all 6 until i opened the throttle and the 5.5 is back @ 3K rpm....

might have to take it to somebody who knows about these things.

Simply because it is not running right.

I have a suspension session booked at SVP this friday, and have asked if they can plug the engine into a diagnostics and see just what is going on.

I've run out of mechanical swaps now, new DME relay, new earth straps, new plugs, new injector on a previous weak running cylinder.
Ran perfectly for 9 cruising miles to get fuel for the racer this weekend, and gave it a good hard blast up a 3 lane hill, so full throttle for 1/2 mile.
After a slow down the poor running (like it is a 5.5 cylinder engine) at exactly 3K rpm returned.

I can only think the ecu is not running cleanly and that injector is still being mis controlled.

For 15 years this engine has been perfect, 60k miles and 13 hillclimb seasons, now this.

I would not want to be at SPA at 10 at night if this prob gets worse. :?

Petric:

Are you SURE of that or a reasoned thought?
Most important as if you are sure then i have time to get this sorted for SPA!

iirc to change it is a bitch (engine in situe) but I'm good at swearing at difficult cars it i win!

Finally got it to run on all six!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Went through everything at least a million times, then finally in a fit of pissedoffness, thought of the only thing I had not swopped ou, put the old points (found in the usual box of knacked junk that accumulates) cleaned them with a file, threw them in and gapped them by eye, then it runs on all six! I had fitted a set of new bosch points during the rebuild!

Have to admit to an epic fail for not being able to get it sorted and on the road for Hedingham, but progress has been made.

See you tommorrow.

Hi Graham,

I have a reconditioned ECU that you can try if you want, both early and later types.

Had a great blast through Dorset into Somerset to the Haynes Museum, well worth a visit. Good coffee and food, an amazing collection of cars that needs a lot of laps to see , and today they were running old flat head "banger hot rods" on the little test track...

If your plugs are ok and injectors it's a pretty safe bet !
