It's too early to be celebrating yet, the car is definitely not finished, but the snag list isn't too bad. It does feel as if the end is in sight.

Clapton's drive would be very cool. I don't know him, but I believe I'm 3 or 4 links away (friend of a friend of a friend) and might have a try that way. If anyone is rather closer to the great man and fancies putting in a good word for me, please go ahead!

Gary, I've not decided what to do about bumper and side trims. I don't really like the S sill trims, and had always intended to go with bumper tape and P O R S C H E side decals, like the lightweight cars.... I bought a set of those a while ago from Bob Tilton in the US, so will probably fit those to start with and see how I feel. Can always change later.
BTW I do know that the rear bumper horns should have rubber inserts, but as you can see in the pic I prefer the earlier naked chrome variant (especially if there is no other rubber because bumper tape not standard trims). Robert - design credit to you, since I have blatantly ripped off all the nice touches from the 69 car... final exhaust will exit under the bumpers, too.

It's funny, I have always thought of this car as a little bit sports purpose. But I've been very conservative about that, and now it's nearly done it's so close to standard cosmetically that I feel I have probably underdone it. Might look more cohesive if I revert things like sill trims to standard.
I'm keeping the 7Rs, trick suspension, LSD, probably the Biodes, deffo the sporty seats and the lovely original 380mm steering wheel (thanks Andy) though...

I would leave it as is - trimless. I wouldn't bother with black tape and lettering. Are you going to install driver's wing mirror?

Trimless looks great, not many like that these days.

I think you've got just the right amount of 'Sports purpose' and I'd leave the trim off.

One of those door mirrors Darren has 'in stock' now would lift the driver's side?
I mean the type that is going on the flares car.

That's exactly what I thought when I got my car back together, hence the pinstripes on the sills, bumpers and rear over-riders. I didn't want any trim but just wanted something to break up the colour.

With all due respect to you and Darren... are they not the fugliest mirrors this side of a JCB? Or am I thinking of something else?
I might add a deeply unoriginal but period correct Durant (with the same convex glass mod I used on the 69 car, with a view to actually using it to look behind me occasionally).

With that said I quite like the mirrorless look, perhaps because I know for a fact that in 1970 it didn't have side mirrors:

Yes, that's a distinct possibility. I have the original AFN sale records linking my chassis number to the reg. I will certainly try to get it.
But one step at a time - for now I'm struggling to get DVLA to assign any kind of registration. Or indeed to answer the phone / email / letters.

Trimless. And you could try a twin exit Dansk exhaust? They work very well on the carburettor cars - it would need someone cleverer than me to say whether they are as good on an MFI
