I put the remaining diy header on. rerouted a couple of wires and speedo cable.

I have a little leak from the oil temp sender plate.

I fitted the final head vent pipe and cranked it on the starter. Think the battery is too small/old. Going to look up a new more powerful one.

It has oil pressure. the idiot light goes out. the gauge isn't fitted yet so no numbers.

All in all I am just moments away from the very first start up.

Mock up of a crank trigger setup on a 914/4 engine. The trigger wheel replaces the 4mm shim behind the fan. In this case, it will be running upright cooling but I believe it works with the original cooling fan (maybe a little clearancing required.

That looks interesting. Does a double pulley fit on here with a longer belt to the fan at the top and another to the alternator?

I believe there is already an option for this by Jake Raby?

Perhaps this solution is more wallet friendly?

Buttoned up a few final things before first start up.

Unfortunately it would not start. I have compression, fuel, spark and air!

It just span. we had 2 backfires but that's it.

The snail o meter read a steady 3 on all four carb intakes when cranking.

Going to have a look at valves tomorrow bit I'm certain that i got those correct before i fitted the covers.

Check the order of the spark plug wires carefully. The order is 1-4-3-2. Kick back is typical of that.

Good going Keith, a very nice reward for all the winter works.

The Prescott hill this weekend gone saw lots of good PB's reset, perfect hillclimb weather for all I think.

Personally way off (c1.4 secs) of my PB in the Lola, but I can't remember when I set it!

Good news is back in one piece.

Did a bit of tinkering on the hillclimb Lola today. Checked and adjusted the front end geo and steering wheel, replace the clutch master cylinder rod that bent suddenly (?), thank goodness I have a lathe.

Did a bit of TLC also on the old trailer, too easy to forget this essential bit of kit.

Fitted new points today and did a basic dwell/timing/idle speed set up. Heavens opened just after so test drive will wait!



And more revs is better yes? I fitted the 6500 one a couple of weeks ago and it’s so keen compared to whatever was on there before. So binned that off for the 7100 one to avoid the abrupt stop and massive bangs!

MOT for the 993 yesterday.

The lads Prom next month and rather than go in the stretch limo with his mates he asked if we could go in one of the 911s - which was good! So making sure they’re both ready so he can pick
