Ha! In 1974 i was supposed to get a Cortina estate as a company car but managed to swing a Capri 2.0S in red with black and white stripey seats!!

Ha! In 1974 i was supposed to get a Cortina estate as a company car but managed to swing a Capri 2.0S in red with black and white stripey seats!!

My first was an Alfa Sud, followed a few months later by a VW Scirocco, which I had turbocharged by Janspeed...

Had 3 1600 Capri in the early 80s
Mk 2 and 2 Mk3s
Fabulous cars, took us into France many times and all the family stuff.
Needed a 5 speed box though.

I've never owned any model of Ford - none of them ever held any appeal ...

Recently, however, I did look at a couple of twin-cam Mk I Escorts which were very nice (in Ermine White) but they were 'silly' money (to me anyway).

You need to have a look on the Mathewson’s site, they have quite a few regularly.

My first car was a mk2,Escort before the VW scene took hold but never owned a blue oval since - although have a hankering for an Escort Harrier, 1600 sport, RS2000 or Capri 3.0s, but prices have gone mental and would need to sell the 964 and that doesn’t really work for me.

Still nice to look though…

Perfect weekend for these old cars. Had a great drive through the Yorkshire dales with friends on Sunday along with some horrific weather including hail so hard we couldn’t see. All adds to the excitement. Then yesterday finally got round to fitting my red lenses and orange led indicator bulbs.

914 owners with side-shift transmission will recognise this: changing the bush in the gear linkage at the gearbox end. The session on the rolling road, where heat from the exhaust had risen due to lack of aitflow under the car, led to the plastic cover over the linkage, becoming dislodged, melting against the number one header pipe. This meant having to remove the main shift rod, which in turn showed up how much play there was in the bushing (which pushes into that hole you can see in the pic). That meant removing the conical screws that secure the linkage at each end. The front one was fine, but the one at the gearbox end had seized, and the hole for the allen key stripped... Had to hammer in a torx key to remove it... Even though the GT Racing header is wrapped with exhaust wrap, as you can see in the photo, it is so close to where the plastic cover and the accompanying rubber bellows over the linkage rod would go, I can see this becoming a regular problem, although to be fair, it has survived three years...

I have a similar proximity issue with my UJ boots on the Lola. For you, make a simple heat shield from thin stainless and jubily clip to the header tube about where the heat wrap is?

You could form a heat shield from “Nimbus. It’s aluminium with tiny air pockets and cuts / forms easily.
