Following some cock ups with the engine, things got back on track today.

The pistons and barrels were assembled and fitted to the case. Every thing still rotates nice n freely.

The heads have to go off to stateside next and some replacement tinware needs to be sourced.

Drove out to Leicester for a comedy show. The comedy show was a very clever construct. Well written but not many belly laughs. Maybe because she dared to skate on thin ice a few times. I enjoyed it but Mrs B, like some of the audience, wanted to leave early.

The 356 ran perfectly. I made sure I had the lights and radio on all the way back. We restarted perfectly every time. I had 6.4v of charge in the battery after the journey.

Then door latch is still working. One more trip and I will put the door card back on.

A couple more test drives and an oil change before our big trip.

Not today. resting a very painful thumb & wrist today.

I sorted the wheels (for different cars) that i had sat in the garage.

Found the best original steel wheel, dated 6/74 and got most of the paint and rust off before the knotty wheel wore out. picked up new ones today. hopefully finish it on monday and get it painted.

Not so bad for a happy amateur like me

Applause for Centre Gravity…I am happy to report the ‘T’ now drives in a straight line and turns into corners with little fuss ! - joking aside, the improvements just want you to push on as the extra grip and balance makes the process of driving at speed easier as your brain has had the fear factor removed. Nice to drive something that’s with you and not fighting you !! The car previously under steered with snap oversteer, as proved at CLM 2025 in the wet where I had my first proper spin. This was mainly caused by faulty front struts causing a large difference in camber. Other works included were new A arm bushings from elephant racing, spring plate bushings, upgrade to a turbo tie rod, new front wheel bearings, the ZF steering rack was refurbished and of course a chassis tune up !
The 3hr drive home was a joy but most importantly confidence inspiring. Ive never cruised at 85-90 mph and felt totally safe before ! As I said above, you can just focus on the driving and not looking at which hedge you’re going to end up in !

Yep it’s quite something to feel absolute confidence in your car’s abilities. I’ve also had that when driving away from center gravity.
