DDK - Die Deutschen Klassiker

This is a Mk3. The state of some online is shocking, massively holed sills, floors everything! Caught his just in time nothing more than light surface. Rust proofing is non existent.
I used to have a Mk1 and you could hear water running up and down the sill when you braked

She had a Mk4 when they came out, but never got on with it (high miles a year job) and chopped it for an AUDI TT about a year ago which is definitely 'her'.
So good that AUDI, DSG etc Hi Line.

MX5 quickly becoming a very good club hill climb car.

What are you using to initially coat the metal surfaces?

Ground back with wire brush, Bilt Hamber rust converter then Epoxy 121. Brush strokes tidied up on some parts with a small gloss roller before it dried.
The arches and sills of the Mazda got all that plus Dinitrol underseal and wax injection. It’s still gently weeping wax all over the drive and probably will do each time it gets warm!

Heater valves going back together. Cheers for the bushes Graham. Perfect!

There’s definitely something in the additional vent plan but I think it’s the clock or nothing from an appearance perspective.

It might be worthwhile getting that viper green under the dash, which has never seen the light of day, colour sampled for future reference when you come to paint the shell.

That’s the plan Mike, there’s a really nice section above the instruments that’s a proper finish, much of the rest is a dusting.

Whilst playing with the heater the miserable state of the lower connection from the RH valve to bulkhead finally tipped me over to do something about it.

It’s been in two parts with no fixings and held together with luck, tape and tie wraps for years. This meant the underdash vent was also held on with tape.

I had a plan to measure the other one, draw it up on CAD and get one 3D printed. But hey I don’t have the kit for that so made a steel one

The main tube of the rollover jig was exactly the right size to form the tube. Cutting it off at 30 degrees was fun, but the other part of the flange was easy enough using Steven’s shrinker/stretcher tool.

Probably a bit excessively strong now, but it’s steel and hence good

Coat of black paint this afternoon and it will never be seen again.

And painted.

Now I’ve taken the loom out of the box, stared at it for a bit, then ordered some bits and pieces to patch it up and remove all the additions that (mainly I) have added over the years.

There’s dodgy earths and connections everywhere, not surprising my indicators were a bit temperamental when it rained!

This looks like it will work. Lose the chrome accents and it also might even fit in the standard rubber ring, but that’s buried somewhere in a box!

I've dissected out my additional bits and the main harness is pretty good to be honest.
It's the separate engine and lights harnesses that need work. The front lights I might remake half of as it looks so rough.
